One of the most important things we do at the start of the year is, of course, teach the alphabet letters and sounds. There are tons of cute alphabet books out there, but here are a few of my favorites:
Superhero Alphabet
A superhero for every letter of the alphabet-- the kids go crazy for this one!
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
A classic favorite-- the video is really cute, too, and I even have a CD with the song on it. This book is great because it lends itself to so many other ideas. Maybe I'll expand on those in another post when I do some of them with my class so I'll have photos. :)
Alphabet Under Construction
In this book, Mouse constructs each letter in a phonetically creative way until he has the most amazing alphabet!
Miss Bindergarten Gets ready For Kindergarten
Of course, in this book all of the children's names begin with a different letter of the alphabet. The kids don't usually notice, you have to point it out. But it's a great way to begin prompting them with, "What letter comes next?" And it's a must-read at the beginning of Kindergarten!
Shiver Me Letters!
These days, kids are really into pirates. The crew has been ordered to find every letter of the alphabet or walk the plank! Needless to say, they get a kick out of this one-- argh!
Of course, there are many more alphabet books out there. These are just some of my favorites and now that I've thought about them, I'm looking forward to reading them to a new group of kinderpillars.
If you have a great alphabet book not listed, please share it in the comments section! I'm something of a book junkie and love to find new titles to add to my
Happy Reading!
